THINGS TO DO

Apart from climbing Adam’s Peak there are lots of great walking trails that can range from walking along a road for 20 minutes and seeing a beautiful waterfall. Light one hour or 2 hour hikes to a thrill seeking hike that takes you through rough terrain to a top of a mountain and then hiking back down the steep side of the mountain with our experienced guides.

Trail   1

This waterfall is just a leisurely stroll along the main road coming into Delhousie. It will take you about 20 minutes from our guesthouse and the road is flat.

Trail 2

This hike through the tea plantations can be done without a guide and you can explore by yourselves. It’s up to you how long or high you want to get but the higher you do go the better the views.

Trail 3

This hike takes you to high up in the tea plantations. It’s quite a hard walk and will give you a sweat. If you are here for a couple of days then this is a must on your trip as you can see by the views. You will need a guide and  it will take you 2 to 3 hours or if you really like hiking we can prepare a pack lunch and our guide can take you out for the whole day.

We did tell you that this is the best kept secret in Sri Lanka!

Trail 4

All I can say about this hike is stunning. Two pictures weren’t enough to show you so we added 4 so you can really let your imagines run wild. Our trusted guide will take you south reaching about 1300 meters before coming down over the mountain that is situated directly opposite our guesthouse.

You will rest by this lovely river for lunch and if you are brave enough you can even go skinny dipping in the fresh clean river. You will then head east where you can see tea plantations on your left and sub tropical rain forest on your right before heading your way to lake Mousekelle.

From there you will start cutting right through the tea plantations and start heading back to base.

Your last part of the hike will be running along the lake and tea plantations above on your right.

This is a very long hike and best not done the day before you want to climb the peak. It will take you about 7 hours and you won’t to do anything but rest the next day.

Trail 5

Anyone that likes a bit of an adrenalin rush then you should take this hike. You will start hiking up through tea plantations with views of Adam’s Peak and lake   Mausakelle in the background. Then once you reach where the tea plantations stop it is a very steep up hill 20 minute hike through thick bushes and trees. Once at the top the views of Adam’s Peak, lake Mausakelle and the surrounding area are amazing as you can imagine. The hike down the other side then gets a bit tricky and at times quite scary. Imagine hacking through thick forest on a face of a mountain. The very last part you have to cross a rock with a very thin trickle of water running down it. The surface is very, very slippy and one false mistake is fatal as you will slide down about 30 feet onto rocks and something will definitely break and it won’t be the rocks. I had to take my shoes off as I could not get any grip and get as low as possible. I’m afraid I don’t have pictures of this as my life was more important and taking a picture was the last thing on my mind. I was told there’s another way but is longer. Or you can go back down the way you came which is a lot easier but won’t satisfy that rush you are looking for.  WARNING! This hike really isn’t for the faint hearted and 2 guides will be needed.

Swimming and Chilling out

When was the last time you swam in a river?  The water doesn’t get much cleaner than at Adam’s Peak. There are many natural rock pools to swim in as well as very clean river water. Some places are quite far to get to and you will need to hike. If you don’t want to hike or take a car you can also take a dip in the river at the end of our garden.

If climbing up over 5000 steps is not your idea of fun, then we suggest grabbing a book and taking a nice walk along the tea plantations and making your way to the edge of the lake. We can make you a pack lunch just like mum used do when you went on a school trip. Doorstep sandwich, potato chips, mars bar and a piece of fruit to keep you going for the day.
